2006 TEAMS RACING SPRING REGATTA

 Algies Bay, Warkworth.

6th & 7th October 2006

 NOTICE OF RACE

 

THE ORGANISING AUTHORITY is the Sandspit Yacht Club & NZTRA 

VENUE is the sailing area of Algies Bay.

1          ENTRIES 

1.1       Entry is open to all teams meeting the requirements of the NOR below.

1.2       A team consists of six sailors and up to two reserves and a “manager” and/or coach. Teams are required to provide an acceptable on water umpire and where practical a inflatable/patrol boat suitable for use as an umpires boat.( fuel used will be supplied by the organising authority). Skipper crew combinations must total 110kg. in weight or carry weights. 

1.3       All entries are to be lodged with SYC  C/- Nick Hazard  by the 22 September 2006. Early expressions of interest would be appreciated at Nick, SYC hggs@maxnet.co.nz or Ross   wildrose@xtra.co.nz   nztra.

1.4       The cost of entry is $50 per person or ($300 per team) for teams supplying their own boats and $80 per person ($480 per team ) for those who require boats supplied.Composite teams may be possible for those short on numbers through Ross at the NZTRA. 

1.5       A bond of $500 per team will be required as a cheque made out to SYC lodged at time of entry . The cheque will be held until the completion of the regatta.Or any teams with bonds held by NZTRA will be covered for this regatta.

1.6       Lunches will be available at $7.00 per person. Please advise on your entry if you are likely to want this service. 

1.7       A dinner is planned to be held on Friday 6 October. Cost of this per person will be advised.   

2          RULES

2.1       The Championship will be governed by the ‘rules’ as defined in the RRS 2005 – 2008, the Prescriptions of Yachting New Zealand, the YNZ Safety Regulations Part 1, Appendix D of the RRS [Team Racing Rules ]  These rules are modified to a limited extent by ‘The Notice of Race’ and the 420 Class Rules except as modified by the Sailing Instructions. 

2.2       Races will be umpired in accordance with RRS. Appendix D 2.2

2.3       Scoring will be in accordance with RRS. Appendix D3 and D4. 

3          YACHTS

3.1       The racing will be sailed in 420 dinghies. SYC will organise boats to be identical as far as possible. Contrary to the class rules, trapezes and spinnakers will not be used.  Sunburst mains and 420 jibs will be used.Or reefed 420 sails to sunburst size as per NZTRA specs. 

3.2       Yachts will be identified by colours on sails.

3.3       Competitors shall not modify these yachts in any way, except that;

            a  Wind indicators, such as yarn or thread, may be tied or taped  on side stays,

            b   Hulls, centreboards and rudders may be cleaned with water only;

            c   Adhesive tape may be used anywhere above the waterline;

            d   Sheets, vangs, outhauls, and cunninghams, are the only parts of the rigging which may be adjusted without authorisation from the Race Committee. Jib halyards and mast chocks must not be “maladjusted” by crews after finishing a race.  

3.4       All equipment provided with the yacht for sailing purposes shall be carried while afloat.  It is not permitted to add to, or replace any part of the boats gear or running rigging. without authorisation from the Race Committee.

3.5       No tools other than tape and shackle key may be carried aboard. 

3.6       The penalty for infringement of the above instructions will be the probability of disqualification from all races sailed in contravention of the instruction.                           

3.7       Competitors shall report any damage or loss of equipment, however slight, to the Finish boat, umpires or Boatmaster as soon as possible or immediately after each race. The penalty for infringement of this instruction, unless the jury is satisfied that the competitor made a determined effort to comply, will be liability to disqualification from the race in which, the damage or loss most likely occurred.                                   

3.8.1        Malicious damage to or maladjustment of equipment or boats will make the team responsible liable to disqualification from the regatta.          

 4.0       PROGRAMME

            Friday 6 October           

            0900 to 0945 hrs Confirm Crews and Weights to Race Committee

               0945 hrs. Briefing

            1030 hrs First race      

            1300 hrs lunch

            1345 hrs Recommence Racing 

            Racing to continue until approximately 1730 hrs.

            Dinner at 7.00pm (Venue to be advised)

 
            Saturday 7 October  

            9.30 to 1230hrs            Racing

            12.30 to 1315hrs          Lunch

            1315    to 1600hrs        Racing                                                                                                         

5.0       TEAMS

            Each team consists of three skippers, three crew members and up to two reserves and an acceptable “umpire” all of whom must be named at registration .   

6.0       SUBSTITUTION

            A team may change the composition of their crews using their reserves by advising the Race Officer in time to allow a change without delaying the start of the race involved.  No reason need be given 

7.0       RACING AREA

            The racing area will be in the region of Algies Bay. 

8.0       THE COURSE
 
The course is intended to be a starboard S, but may be modified at the discretion of the Race Officer.There will be a designated holding and changeover area advised at the briefing .Two courses may be used  if numbers demand. 
 
9.0       SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
 
            The sailing instructions will be available at registration
 

10.0     WEIGHT LIMITATION 

            There is a minimum weight limitation of 110 ks. per crew combination. Sailors will be weighed in sailing clothes. Sailors can make this up by no more than 10 kg with weights in the form of plastic containers holding any suitable solid material eg. sand. Weight containers must be tied to the base of the mast while racing. Crews are responsible for supplying and maintaining the correct weight which may be checked at any time by the race committee.  .

 11.0     LIFE JACKETS AND CLOTHING

             Approved buoyancy aids in accordance with NZYF or AYF prescriptions shall be worn at all times while racing.  Only normal  sailing clothing  will be allowed, no clothing or device to increase weight will be permitted. 

 12.0     LAUNCHING AND RETRIEVING YACHTS

            All yachts shall be launched from the Algies Bay Ramp, unless directed otherwise by the Race Committee.  Arrangements for change overs  will be advised by the Race Committee and will take place on the water .                                                                                                                                           

13.0     SUPPORT  BOATS.

13.1     Coaches may view their teams racing from support boats  Support and spectator boats must remain 100 metres from the course of any yacht racing.  Support and spectator boats may not communicate in any way with any yacht racing.

13.2     The penalty for failing to comply with this requirement may be disqualification of competitors associated with the infringing support boat.

14.0     SCORING 

14.1     Scoring in each individual race will be in accordance with appendix D3. Scoring the series will be in accordance with appendix D4.                                                  

14.2     The regatta results will be based on the teams sailing two round robins with all teams in each group sailing an equal number of races against each other. After the first round robin the teams may be split into gold and silver fleets. Final format will be determined by the number of teams entered.            

15.0          PRIZES

15.1               Trophies will be awarded for 1st 2nd and 3rd
