Commentary - Updated throughout the Regatta
Friday May 2
1720 - All boats ashore and the packing up begins.  Great week.  All sorts of weather and as usual the students from 24 schools around the country have had a great time.
1530 - Final is over with Tauranga coming out on top over Mahurangi, followed by McLeans and then Westlake Boys.
1430 - Boats out again for the last round robin and girls have left the beach for the girls final.  Breeze has moderated to about 15kts.
1315 - Finals completed 2 rounds before the wind got over the upper limit of 20kts.  (Gusting 30kts).  Fleet ashore to reef and weight for an abatement.  Ifthe regatta ends here, then Mahurangi, followed by Tauranga, MacLeans and then Westlake Boys.
Silver fleet has completed the round robin with Auckland Grammar, Cook Is. and then Paraparaumu.
1030 - Silver Fleet and Final Round robin underway
0900 - Not much breeze at the moment despite the forecast of 25kts.  Silver fleet will continue (but using the 18 boat structure) as soon as conditions allow.  Finals will be held on the other course.  Girls finals will be run after the Silver Fleet Round Robin has completed.


Thursday May 1
1430 - Gold Fleet has gone out to determine the top 4 for the finals.  Westlake Boys has finished top unbeaten, Tauranga and Mahurangi just behind.  MacLeans and Kerikeri have a chance to get the final spot.
1220 - Wind has got up to around 20kts with a bit of boat damage.  All boats coming ashore.  Gold Fleet round robin has 8 races to go.  Silver is just over half way through.
1015 - A couple of squall have come through with gusts nearing 20kts.  Silver Fleet has reefed.  Upsets on Gold Fleet.  Westlake Boys only unbeaten team now, with wins over Kerikeri and Tauranga.
0915 - Breeze today (NW), so racing will get underway on time.  Boats for both fleets are now on the water.

Wednesday April 30
1650 - Racing finished at race 33 in Gold Fleet.  (There has been a power outage in Takapuna where our scoring system servers are.  Will update as soon as possible.)
1530 - Gold Fleet has gone out again.  Silver in for the day.
1450 - After some good winds, its gone all shifty again.  Boats coming off the water.
1225 - WNW breeze now best of the week at about 10kts.
1130 - Gold and Silver Fleets now underway.  WNW breeze still shifty and light.
1103 - Westlake Girls and Long Bay win 2nd repechage races so go through to Gold Fleet.
1045 - Long Bay wins 1st race over St Kents.
1000 - Repechages underway.  Best of 3 - Westlake Girls beat Napier Girls in first race.  2nd race Long Bay v St Kents abandoned.  Moving the course out a bit.
0850 - Fine weather with a light NW.  Racing should get underway earlier today.  Repechages will be raced first.  Long Bay v St Kents and Napier Girls v Westlake Girls.  Best of three races and then straight into the Gold and Silver Fleet rounds.

Tuesday April 29
1642 - Struggling to finish the round robin on Course 2 with about 5 races to go.  Wind left us for a while, but has come back now.  The full summary of Fleet A are on the Results page.  Long Bay and Westlake Girls are the Fleet A repechage teams.  Napier Girls and St Kents are the repechage teams from Fleet B.
1540 - Nearing the end of the preliminary round robin.  The sixth boat from each fleet will sail off a three race repechage with the seventh boat of the opposite fleet. The winners will go through to the Gold Fleet.
1315 - Wind has filled in from the N.  All boats now on the water.  Racing about to begin.
1245 - False alarm.  Nothing again, although course 1 boats are out on the water.
1130 - Breeze starting to fill from SE.  Remarkably similar to yesterday.  Teams starting to stir.
1015 - Still waiting.  No wind yet. Photo taken at 1010.

0845 - Teams gathering, but little wind at this hour. Forecast is for a building breeze (and rain) from the NE as a system comes over.

Monday April 28
1705 - Racing finished for the day.  A couple of protests to hear.  Got through to race 42 on each course.
1555 - Racing continues with a nice NE 6 to 8.  Trundling through the races and will probably get to race 40 in each fleet tonight.
1300 - Racing underway, with a big shift to the NE.
1210 - We have action.  SE has filled in a touch and boats leaving the beach for both courses.  Racing will get underway in a few minutes.
1140 - Premature excitement, although 3 knot SE reasonably steady
1100 - Hint of breeze coming from SE.  Teams still ashore.
1010 - light winds from N. Slight delay to racing.  Teams on beach ready to leave, umpires out on the water. course laid.  Just need a bit more wind.



Teams gather on Sunday April 27 for registration, weigh in and Regatta opening.
