2006 Interdominion Secondary Schools Team Sailing Championships 

Monday 2nd.  to Thursday  6th. October 2006

Notice of Race

 

 

1.0     Rules 

 

1.1     The regatta will be governed by the ‘rules’ as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing 2005-2008 including Appendix D

 

1.2     The Yachting New Zealand Safety Regulations Part 1 shall apply. 
 

 

1.3    The “Single Flag Protest Procedure”, D2.3(a) shall be used.

 

 

 

1.4    All advertising must be declared prior to registering for the event and must not conflict at any time with the main event sponsors.

 

 

 


2.0       Changes to Racing Rules

 

 

 

2.1         In Rule D5.1, change red to yellow.

2.2     Add new rule D1.1(f) When a boat completes a leg of the course in accordance with  C7.2( c) she is not permitted to return to that leg of the course.      

 


3.0     Changes to  Class Rules
 

 

The rules of the 420 class will be changed as follows;

Spinnakers and trapezes will not be used and standing rigging and jib luff tension may not be adjusted without permission from the Race committee. Mainsails may be reefed at the direction of the Race Committee if the wind strength is high enough for reefing  to improve team racing or to reduce boat damage.

 


4.0     Eligibility and Entry
 

 

4.1 The regatta is open to the top three teams from each country at the 2006 New Zealand and Australian National Secondary School Championships respectively.. Teams will sail as three skipper and crew combinations whose weights must exceed 110kg. or be made up with sand filled plastic bottles attached to the base of the mast. Teams may bring up to two reserve sailors. Reserve sailors may be subbed only when their teams are off the water so as not to delay the regatta.  All sailors must be pupils currently attending a secondary school in their Country. If any of the top three teams from either country are unable to compete their places will be offered to the next teams in the finishing order of their Championships.
 

 

4.2 Entries will be accepted until the closing date of Friday 1st. September 06, by completing the attached entry form accompanied by a fee of $2000 in cheque form and mailing it to NZTRA Box 168 Warkworth. The above fee will cover team entry fees plus transport from the airport, accommodation and food for nine members per team.

4.3  Local teams will also need to provide two personnel to be on the regatta planning team plus some gear in the form of 420s and patrol boats.  

 

 

 

4.4    A refundable damage bond of $ 500. shall be paid by separate cheque made payable to NZTRA.
         In the event of a team causing major damage to a boat or boats they may be required to pay an additional damage bond payment if they wish to continue competing in the event.

 

 

 

5.0     Schedule of Events
 

 

5.1     Practise Registration and weigh in
Monday 2nd. October, Teams will be able to practise between 9.30am. and 4.0 pm. a roster will be organised for use of boats.

 

 

 

 

5.2     Briefing:
Monday 2nd. 6.0pm. at Sandspit Y.C. followed by dinner. Breakfast and briefing at SYC at 8.0 am. every Day.  There will be an umpire’s debrief each night at 6.0 pm. followed by dinner

5.3     Racing Schedule:
The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first race is 9.30.0 am. on Tuesday 3rd. October  

          Racing will continue through to Thursday 5th.

          No race will start after 4.0pm. on Thursday.

          Prize giving to follow on Thursday evening.

 

 

 

5.4     Racing Format:
It is intended that racing will consist of seven round robins. Any partly completed round robins will be discarded. In the event of drawn positions every effort will be made to organise sail offs. A minimum of two round robins will be necessary to gain a result

However this format may be changed, at the discretion of the race Committee, if weather conditions do not permit completion of the programme.

 

 

6.0     Sailing Instructions 

 

The Sailing Instructions will be available at the briefing.

 

 

7.0     Racing Area 

 

The races will be held in Kawau Bay.

 

 

8.0     Courses to be Sailed 

 

The course will be a right hand S or as shown on the attachment provided.

 

 

9.0     Scoring 

 

Scoring will be in accordance with RRS Appendix D3 and D4. For the event to be “completed” at least two round robins shall be sailed. 

10.0      Prizes
There will be an Interdominion trophy for the winning country scored on races when the teams from the two countries race against each other in completed round robins. There will also be a trophy for the top team taken from all the races sailed in completed round robins  

 

 

 

11.0  Team Support Boats 

 

11.1     Team support boats will be allowed but must remain 100m outside the course area.  Communication between coaches and teams will be most easily carried out at the change over stations.

 

 

12.0    DECISIONS OF THE JURY
12.1    In accordance with RRS 70.4(a) and Addendum A, Yachting New Zealand has approved the denial of the right of appeal for these Championships.

 

PLEASE NOTE

 

Prize-giving dinner entry for the registered sailors and manager up to a total of nine people only is included in the entry fee. Extra supporters can be accommodated and fed for $60 per day regatta transport included
